Some Background.

The 2023 Autumn Statement outlines the Government’s spending plans by setting budgets for each central government department. With an election looming in late 2024 / early 2025, this is the Chancellor’s last chance to sway undecided voters, but it’s certainly not an easy task.

A Quick Summary.

The Chancellor announced Employee National Insurance tax cuts from 12% to 10% from January 2024 as well as to cut National Insurance Contributions for the self-employed from April 2024.

Furthermore, he confirmed that the National Living Wage is set to rise to £11.44 from April 2024 and, for the first time, will be extended to those aged 21 and over.

In the Chancellor’s speech it was also revealed that the state pension is set to rise 8.5% as the triple lock is confirmed.
